Verne Dixon

birdSEED Advisory Board

Born in Maryland, Verné Dixon instantly fell in love with Philadelphia upon moving to the city that she now calls home.  She loves the richness that Philadelphia offers from the abundance of culture and arts to the connectedness of the people.  She lives in Brewerytown near the Art Museum and Barnes Foundation, both museums where she can often be found. “I really love all things Philly!”

Professionally, Verné has worked for various nonprofit organizations and currently serves as an executive team member for one that provides residential and other services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  “The reason I joined the organization for which I work is because each individual we support has their own home, versus living in a group home setting.  They receive one-to-one care, are involved in their care planning, are treated with the upmost dignity and respect, and encouraged to live authentically.  They have choice, as they should, and that directly aligns with my values.”

Verné is also active in her community including her involvement in her neighborhood’s Zoning Committee where she advocates for affordable housing through rentals and homeownership opportunities.  She recognizes that neighborhoods greatly benefit from diversity, including that of income.  She is a graduate of the city’s Citizens Planning Institute.  She is also a board member for a few nonprofit organizations.

She holds a B.S. in Accounting from Morgan State University, a M.B.A. and Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics from West Chester University, a M.S. in Human Services from the University of Baltimore and a M.S. in Organizational Development and Leadership from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

She is a certified yoga instructor, certified reiki practitioner, and wife to Kevin Dixon.

“Because of the opportunities I have to be of service to my community, I have the best, most fulfilled life!”
